Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2023

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship program was established in October 2000 by a US$210 million donation to the University of Cambridge from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; this is the largest single donation to a UK university. The first class of scholars arrived in October 2001.

Each year, Gates Cambridge awards approximately 80 full-fee scholarships to outstanding applicants from countries other than the United Kingdom to pursue a postgraduate degree in any subject offered by the University of Cambridge. Approximately two-thirds of these awards will be available to PhD students, with 25 awards available in the US round and 55 available in the International round.

Cambridge University offers scholarships for Masters, MLitt, and PhD programs. The scholarship program is fully funded, and all international students residing outside of the United Kingdom are eligible to apply. Except for a few exceptions, almost all of the courses and subjects available for this scholarship are taught at the university level.

Criteria for Eligibility:

• Applicants must be international students.
• Applicants must apply for a full-time residential Master's or PhD program at the University of Cambridge.
• They must apply for a postgraduate course that is eligible.
• Applicants must be outstanding students with potential for leadership.
• Applicants must explain why they chose the courses they did.

• An annual maintenance allowance of £18,744 at the 2022-23 rate
• Flights in economy class at the start and end of the program.
• Inbound visa fees as well as a health surcharge
• The scholarship will not cover fieldwork expenses because university fees should cover them.
• The trust may also provide a family allowance for children ranging from £10,120 to £14,140.
• Additional academic development funds up to £500-£2000 will be given to attend conferences and other courses. However, the amount depends on the course length.
• Hardship funding for unforeseen difficulties.

Required Documents:

• Personal statement of no more than 3000 characters.
• The PhD candidates have to submit a research proposal. Even if the application for a course or college does not require a research proposal, the Gates scholarship has this requirement as a mandatory one.
• Three reference letters (One can be from a current employee if needed).

Application Process:

• The applicant must apply online through the Graduate Application Portal at the University.
• The applicant must first select a specific course and college location.
• Provide all relevant information about your personal data, academic background, course planning, and application for the course and college.
• Utilize the funding section to apply for funding. You can apply for a variety of funding opportunities through the university and other organizations, including the Gates Cambridge Scholarship.
• You may apply for as many courses as you wish, but you must do so separately for each one.
• If the course is already full, the application status will be closed even before the deadline; therefore, apply as soon as possible.
• It is necessary to submit a personal statement explaining why you are applying for this scholarship program and how you meet the eligibility criteria.
• Some courses have a deadline of 1 December 2022, while others have a deadline of 5 January 2023.
